Dear Early Learning Center Community,
We hope everyone had a nice weekend! This week we will be participating in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record. This event brings together millions of adults and children around the world each year to read the same book on the same day in order to raise awareness about the critical importance of early literacy. This year, Jumpstart is celebrating their 14th anniversary of Read for the Record on November 7, 2019, with the book Thank You, Omu! According to Jumpstart’s website, sharing high-quality picture books with young children is at the core of Jumpstart’s mission. Each year, Jumpstart selects a campaign book that fosters language and social-emotional development, honors the diversity in our world, has a strong narrative, and appeals to young children. That book is read across the country and around the world by adults and young readers on Read for the Record day. We’re excited to once again be participating in Read for the Record at the ELC and in District 54 this Thursday! Please ask your child on what they thought of the story when they come home on Thursday!
From Our School Nurse
This is a reminder to periodically examine your child’s head for lice. It is especially important to look behind the ears and at the nape of the neck, for crawling lice and nits. While the transmission of lice in school is not likely, it is good to get in the habit of checking your child’s head regularly. Please feel free to call the school nurse if you have questions about how to make this practice part of your routine at home.
5 Essentials Survey
Once again we are reaching out to our families and asking you to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey to provide us with your perspective and help guide our school improvement efforts. The parent survey will be available online through Feb. 14, 2020, at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois.
