Principal’s Message – January 20th

Dear Early Learning Center Community,

As our winter weather arrives, please remember to send your child dressed to play outside.  We do go outside daily if the temperature and windchill is above 25 degrees.  With snow expected this weekend, boots, snowpants and warm mittens are a necessity. Thanks for your help with this so that our Sprouts can enjoy the winter weather and run and play outside!

As a reminder, we do not have school on Monday, January 20th.

Please note the following information below for our school and the district.

District 54 Cold Weather Response Plan

In order to help parents better prepare for the severe cold weather and snow we often get during winters in our community, I wanted to share with you the District 54 Severe Cold Weather Response Plan. Though District 54 makes every effort to keep our schools open and operational, circumstances beyond our control oftentimes dictate school closings.

5 Essentials Survey

Once again we are reaching out to our families and asking you to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey to provide us with your perspective and help guide our school improvement efforts. The parent survey will be available online through Feb. 14, 2020, at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois.

Drop Off/Pick Up Safety

Thank you to all of our families that are putting our students, staff and parent safety first during our arrival and dismissal times.  As a reminder, please do not pass the buses as they are departing from the front of the building.  We also ask that you park in the designated blue spots only.  We’d also like to remind you that turning left onto Schaumburg Road during school hours is illegal. Again, we are striving for safety for all parents, drivers, staff and especially students during our drop off and pick up times.  It is critical to remain patient and go slow when entering and leaving the parking lot daily.

For safety reasons, please make sure you let the office and your child’s teacher know well in advance if you will be picking your child up and they will not be going on the bus. It is difficult for all when these requests are made so close to the end of our sessions.  Thank you in advance for your help with this.  We also ask that no food is brought on the buses due to safety and allergies of some students.  Thanks in advance for your help with these safety measures!

Updated Phone Numbers in Case of an Emergency

Please make sure to notify the office of any updated phone numbers as soon as possible.  It is essential that we can reach you or someone on your emergency contact list if something happens at school.  Thank you in advance for your help with this other important safety reminder!

Have a great long weekend,

Julie Gorvett and Carrie Azab
